Leica Digicat i-Series: Making Cable Location Easier & Safer Than Ever Before!

Dear colleagues,

We are pleased to inform you that the New Digicat i-Series has been released and is ready to be shipped

to all markets. Consisting of two models (Digicat 500i & Digicat 550i) the i-Series products are based on

an entirely new electronic DSP (Digital Signal Processing) platform delivering significant improvements in

performance on previous models. In addition, both models can be purchased with Bluetooth connectivity

delivering seamless communication for data capture.

Every year site workers are injured due to inadvertently striking buried utilities such as electricity cables

or gas pipelines. The Leica Digicat i-Series locators are designed to detect electromagnetic signals

radiated from underground utilities and allows employees and equipment to be protected during

excavation projects.

Users of the ‘old’ Leica Digicat 100 & 200 may recognize the similar external casing, however don’t let

this fool you - beneath the surface they are completely new. The adoption of DSP technology delivers

improvements in location precision and allows a number of intelligent features to be added to the product

– all of which make location safer and easier than ever before!

Leica Digicat i-Series: New Technology

One very noticeable new addition to the product is a large, high contrast LCD screen, providing users

with more information at their fingertips. It also includes a light sensor which automatically enables the

vivid backlight in low light conditions, as well as a dynamic display area used for features such as service

depth indication and numeric Digimouse location.

Leica Digicat i-Series Unique Features

Traditionally, users have to manually adjust locators, often resulting in some buried services being

missed. The new Leica Digicat i-Series locators have the same intelligent software seen on their

predecessors which automatically pinpoints signals ensuring services are detected.

Pinpoint Assist

This simple feature maintains the highest peak reading obtained on the signal strength indicator for a

period of time, allowing the operator to swiftly and accurately pinpoint the service position.

Always Start in Power Mode

The Leica Digicat i-Series locators always start in ’Power Mode’ and at maximum sensitivity regardless of

user intervention, ensuring the most dangerous current carrying services are detected first for increased

user safety.

Leica Digicat i-Series: New Features

Numeric Sonde Location

Tracing the Digimouse (or other small signal transmitters) has always proven tricky. Typically users

would have to conduct extensive area sweep searches to discover the position, being mindful of ’ghost’

signals which are emitted. The new Leica Digicat i-Series locators feature a numeric signal strength

indicator. As you approach the Sonde, the numeric readout will slowly increase up to its highest value,

indicating the exact position of the Digimouse below the ground. Simple!

’Hazard Zone’ Shallow Service Warning

Buried utilities close to the surface pose a significant safety risk to site works. The new ’Hazard Zone

’function provides an additional warning to the close proximity of buried services alerting users to the

immediate danger.

’Auto Mode‘ Combined Detection Mode

Safety and ease of use are driving principles in the design of the Leica Digicat i-Series locators. With that

in mind we have introduced a new automatic detection mode which switches between Power & Radio

detection. It’s perfect for quick surveys on initial site occupation and requires minimal user experience.

Service Due Indicator

The new Leica Digicat i-Series locators provide

an indication to the user that the instrument is

due for an annual service. This simple feature

supports planned maintenance schedules and

quality systems.

Wireless Survey Mapping

Both the Leica Digicat i-Series locators can be

purchased with the added benefit of Bluetooth

wireless connectivity, allowing the Digicat to

integrate seamlessly with mobile mapping

technology to log survey data. With a single press

of the button service depth can be logged and

stored. Comprehensive site surveys become

simple!

compatible with existing Digisystem products such as the Digitex Signal Generator, Digimouse etc,

allowing simple integration for established customers.

The Leica Digicat i-Series locators will replace the existing 100 & 200 models and will remain fully
